Get Valentine's Day Cards Hand-Stamped with Love

By Kyrie Collins, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Publisher February 2, 2016

Did you know the United States Postal Service has a list of romance-themed towns that participate in a Valentine's Day postmark program? Naturally Loveland, CO — also known as the nation's Sweetheart City — is on that list!

Make your Valentine's Day cards and love letters stand out with a special postmark by sending them through the Loveland Post Office Valentine Re-Mailing Program. Loveland has been participating in this program for 70 years. Each year the Loveland Chamber of Commerce has a contest to create a new design that appears on the envelope next to the postmark.

From now through February 3, 2016, you can drop off your stamped and addressed cards and letters at any King Soopers or City Market store. Large white drop-off boxes are located near the Customer Service Desk. The stores will deliver all these envelopes to the Loveland Post Office.

If you prefer, you can also send your cards directly to the post office. To have cards and letters re-mailed with the Loveland postmark, properly stamp and address each individual Valentine and put them all in a larger, stamped envelope and mail to:

Postmaster - Attention Valentines
446 E. 29th St.
Loveland, CO 80538-9998

Your cards MUST have proper postage when they reach the Loveland Post Office or they will be returned to you instead of delivered to your recipient. Use the Quilled Paper Heart Forever Stamp issued earlier this year as part of the USPS Love Stamp Series. The stamp features a heart created using the ancient art of quilling — also called paper filigree — which involves rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper, laying them on their edges, and gluing them in place to form intricate designs. The design was created by renowned paper artist and illustrator Yulia Brodskaya.

To ensure delivery by Valentine's Day, the Post Office must receive your cards by the following deadlines:

  • February 2 for international mailings
  • February 6 for US mail outside of Colorado
  • February 9 for mail to be delivered within our state.
Letters received after these dates will still receive the cachet but may not reach your loved ones before Valentine's Day. The official 2016 Loveland cachet design and verse are hand-stamped by dozens of volunteers from February 2-14. This year's cachet includes an image of a cowboy Cupid with an original verse written by Dixie Daly.
