Three meals a day, plus snacks–do they ever stop eating?

πŸ‘©πŸ»‍🍳 Your kids have likely been home more than usual, and the kitchen is open from early morning to late at night. You’ve logged countless hours preparing meals and cleaning up those meals.

Now on top of feeding your precious children nonstop all day, many of you will be managing virtual school. How will you make it work?

🌟Here’s my suggestion: Keep it super simple and give them some responsibility for feeding themselves. Find super simple lunches that your kids can prepare, and clean up, themselves.

I don’t know why this didn’t occur to me earlier. I guess I got stuck in the pattern of caring for them, not recognizing that at a certain age there are foods they can prepare themselves. Not only is it a time burden, but the mental burden of figuring out what to feed them every single day weighs heavily. But if they can easily get up to grab a snack when they’re hungry, why not make lunch that easy?

Let the Kids Make Lunch!

This week I started my journey of Let the Kids Lunch!

My first step was to find healthy and delicious foods they could easily prepare, and I found a ton of options from Kraft Heinz at Walmart that are kid-friendly, delicious, and affordable.

My kids were so excited when I came home and told them they’d be responsible for making their own lunches. We were off to a great start!

Next step, give them delicious food to seal the deal! Here’s what I found:

Delimex Chicken & Cheese Taquitos

Why have I never given my kids taquitos? They’re one of my favorite things, and they took one minute in the microwave – so easy! Luckily, they were an absolute hit (even for my picky eater) and will now be on our weekly rotation of lunch foods. The kids loved wrapping the taquitos in a paper towel and putting them in the microwave themselves. It couldn’t have been easier for them to make this meal.

We completed their lunch with apple slices and a Hershey’s Chocolate Pudding cup. My daughter dipped her apple slices in the pudding cup, which I thought was brilliant. I need to add that to my snack list too!

You can find the Delimex Chicken & Cheese Taquitos in the freezer section of your local Walmart. (Other flavors include cheese, beef, beef and cheese and chicken.)

Lunchables Uploaded

My kids love the basic Lunchables, but as they get older the smaller packages don’t seem to fill them up as much. I decided to try the Lunchables Uploaded and see if it would fill them up better, and it was perfect!

Each package contains a sandwich hoagie, meat and cheese package, mayo packet, side, dessert, and water with a juice packet.

I’m excited that I literally have to touch nothing to get this in their bellies for lunch. They can pull it right out of the fridge and dig in!

You can find Lunchables Uploaded, along with other Lunchables products, near the lunchmeat section of your local Walmart.

Here are some other ideas to add to your list:

This has been a crazy year - you’ve adapted and adapted again, and now you’re adapting to a new challenge with back to school. Go easy on yourselves and your kiddos and make it as easy as possible. You’ll thank yourself! ❀️
