Publisher's Note - April 11th - What Have We Been Up To?

April 14, 2024

Hello Macaronians! Did you see the eclipse? I sure did! I wasn't with either of my children, so that was a bit of a bummer, but I got up to check it about every 10 minutes during the event.

It's incredible that the sun and moon can line up perfectly like that from our perspectives, even though they're vastly different sizes! If you traveled to see the totality, I hope you had a fantastic time and made memories with your kids that will last a lifetime!

I'm hoping to see a total eclipse at some point. If we still live in Colorado in 2045, that will be my chance! (But once the kids are gone, we'll be traveling the world, so it's unlikely we'll still be here!)

What were we up to this week?

  • As expected, my book club discussion was more enjoyable than the book. Everyone's different perspectives are always so interesting, making me think more about my assumptions!
  • I took my daughter to a free poetry workshop at Lighthouse Writers (in RiNo) to celebrate National Poetry Month. They have fantastic youth writing classes, and my daughter loved her workshop. She also takes a virtual class with them every week. They're a fantastic resource for our young writers! It's a little bit of a drive, but I found a cute coffee shop around the corner to set up with my laptop!
  • My daughter had a great time at her International Towne experience! It sounds like they had a lot of fun and learned a lot. (I honestly haven't gotten many details out of her, but it seems like it was a success!)
  • I had my second mammogram this week, which was much easier than the first! During the first appointment, they work really hard to get a good baseline, and the second one was so much easier. So, if you've been putting it off, make that call!
  • Tuesday night, we had our Boots & Buckles 4H meeting at the Gigging Life Care Farm. Both kids are showing animals, and we're starting to get into that time when it takes more of our focus before the fair. My daughter found out which baby goat will be hers for the fair and is so excited!

What are we doing this week?

  • I hope to take the kids to the Brighton Wizards & Wands festival this weekend. We've never been, and it looks really fun!
  • My daughter and I are going to see MJ at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts this weekend, and I'm really intrigued by this show. I love the music and the dancing, but I think his life story is woven throughout the show. So we'll see how it all turns out. I hope it's great!
  • Next week, I'm taking my daughter to the student matinee of Emma at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and I'm so excited! Jane Austen is my favorite author, and Emma is my favorite book. I've seen the movies many times but never seen it as a play! I'm excited to see how they pull the elements of the story out to tell it in their way.

That's it for me this week. I hope you have a great week with your kids!

Peace, love, and macaroni,

Susan
