Publisher's Note - April 18th - Entering the Teenage Years

April 18, 2024

Hello Macaronians!

The big news in our household is that we'll officially have a teenager tomorrow. It feels like yesterday, but also very far away, that we had a toddler. It's been quite the journey, and this feels like a pretty big milestone, with lots more to come!

This milestone also means that I've been a mother for 13 years, and what a journey it has been! It's been filled with ups and downs and tons and tons of learning about myself. Motherhood has really pushed me to grow, and I'm grateful for that experience, even though it's been incredibly difficult at times. So I'm going to celebrate myself tomorrow too as my daughter celebrates becoming a teenager!

What were we up to last week?

We stopped by the Brighton Wizards and Wands event last weekend, and it was really fun! It was set up on Main Street in Brighton, and the activities were inside businesses. Many of them went all out with the theme, and I really enjoyed exploring the cute shops. I've never been to Main Street in Brighton, and there are several adorable stores that you should check out!

On Sunday, we saw MJ at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. The show weaved his music through the story of his life. I wish they had spent more time on his imagination and the process of creating the music and experiences. When they focused on that, we experienced some really unique entertainment. With someone as famous as Michael Jackson, I don't think we need to focus on his life story. We all know it! So, there were a few really beautifully done numbers that I enjoyed!

Yesterday, we were back at the DCPA enjoying a performance of Emma at the student matinee. I LOVED what they did with this story, and it's one of my favorites. They weaved in some modernity throughout the story (with clear nods to Clueless), and I couldn't have loved it more. I'm so glad I was able to experience it with my daughter!

What are we up to this week?

We'll be celebrating all day tomorrow with my new teenager. She's going on a breakfast date with my husband, and then I'm taking her to see Mamma Mia at Frederick High School with our friends at Macaroni KID Broomfield that evening. She'll be celebrating with a big group of friends next weekend.

We've got a couple of other birthday parties to get to this weekend, and then I have my Supper Club. This month's theme is technique, so each recipe has been selected based on a specific technique to master. My dish is Spring Rolls, so I'll be doing lots of julienne cuts!

Other than that, we have a pretty quiet week, which will be nice!

That's all from me this week. I hope you enjoy your week with your kiddos. Hopefully, this dreary weather passes, and we can return to Spring!

Peace, love, and macaroni,

Susan
