On Saturday, Sept. 12,the Orchard Town Center is hosting Shakespeare in the Parking Lot in partnership with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Guests can catch two one-hour performances: "Romeo and Juliet" at noon and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 2 p.m. Both will be performed outdoors on Town Center Drive.
The event is free, open to the community and no RSVP is required. All you need is a lawn chair, sunscreen and good company. With professional performances presented in an unexpected setting, the event offers a unique opportunity for families, theater lovers and community members to experience Shakespeare outside a traditional venue.
Stripped-down but no less impactful
Shakespeare in the Parking Lot is exactly what it sounds like—an abridged performance of Romeo and Juliet orA Midsummer Night’s Dream. The performance takes place in and around our pick-up truck “set” that we drive to your school or community center parking lot.
School performances are followed by an in-class, interactive workshop led by cast members that helps students connect themes of the play to contemporary issues and the high school experience by moving students from being an audience into roles of active engagement. Scholarships available.
