After driving by the Core Power Yoga "Free Week" sign for almost 6 months, I decided to walk into the beautiful Broomfield, CO studio. I had zero idea what to expect... I had read about "hot" yoga and read the same funny mock Craigslist ad many people had seen, selling a yoga mat, seen plenty of hilarious spoofs about what it is like taking a yoga class, etc. Really, I was pretty clueless and nervous.
When I walked in, a smiling teacher welcomed me and had me fill out a simple waiver. She then offered me a complimentary yoga mat and a towel and suggested I buy a water for class. I had not thought about any of these things. I hadn't even realized I would be taking my shoes off (oh, look... I haven't painted my toenails in 4 months because it is JANUARY). I set up my mat facing the same direction as everyone else, and about 10 minutes later the teacher walked in and my journey began. Over 8 years later, I now have taught thousands of classes and, in almost every one, someone is brand new and I am excited for THEM to start their journey.
Personally, my first class was only warm, not hot (a Hot Power Fusion), but really anyone can walk into any class and do it. That is the beauty of yoga. You will see newer students trying advanced moves, you will see the most advanced students hanging out in restorative poses for long periods of time. Everyone does what is right in their body. There is zero expectation. The teacher does make his or her way around the room to adjust you if need be, but this is to ensure your safety in alignment... not to make you feel like you are "doing yoga wrong".
The things you can expect from all the CPY North Denver studios are: they will be immaculate; they will have the best, most friendly staff; they will have whatever you need to take class, including mat, towel, water, clothes to buy, and basic toiletries for showering after; the students there will be diverse in age, shape, size, level and all other categories. You will end your class (all of them) with a refreshing cold lemon-and-lavender-scented towel for your forehead (you may not think this is a big deal now, but BELIEVE ME... it will be outstanding). You will leave extremely happy you tried it.
For your free week, stop in any of the CorePower North Denver studios. Be sure to tell them Macaroni Kid sent you!
