Did you know? Stuffed animals needed for donation at Fire Stations

By Susan Troy - Publisher, Thornton, Northglenn, East Westminster July 6, 2017

In a recent Facebook post of a neighbor, they shared a picture of their son donating some stuffed animals at a local Fire Station. I had no idea you could do that! So I reached out to Sabrina Iacovetta, the Public Education Officer for the Thornton Fire Department to get more information.

Here’s what Sabrina told me:

  • They use the stuffed animals to give to children during emergency calls that include fires and medical calls.
  • They can only accept new stuffed animals with the tags still on them. (She said that not knowing what the receiving children’s medical conditions are can create more harm by giving them a used item, which definitely makes sense!)
  • Brand new stuffed animals are accepted at any fire station, and at fire administration as well.

If you’re looking for somewhere to donate you gently loved stuffed animals to (after a REALLY good cleaning) here are some places to look into:

  • Stuffed Animals for Emergencies – www.stuffedanimalsforemergencies.org (their website has great guidelines for how to determine if a used stuffed animal is donate-able and how to clean it)
  • Foster Homes
  • Women’s Shelters
  • Animal shelters
  • Churches
