It seems like every year my husband and I have the conversation about the last day for tree pickup, then miss it, and then our tree hangs out in the backyard for a while until my husband cuts it up with the chainsaw. Anyone else? Plan ahead by learning more about the different Christmas tree recycling options are available in Thornton, Northglenn, and Westminster this year.
Thornton
Thornton residents and trash/recycle customers are eligible for special holiday trash services including the following:
Holiday Wrap Collection: December 26-30 ~ Thornton trash/recycle customers may place their flattened holiday boxes and bagged wrapping paper at the curb for collection on their regular trash collection day. Please use black trash containers first or consider placing eligible items with other recyclables in the green recycle containers for collection on regular recycling collection day. Use the black trash containers for all household trash.
Christmas Tree Curbside Collection ~ City trash/recycle customers may place their natural, undecorated Christmas trees at the curb for collection on their regular trash collection day from December 26 through January 10, 2025. Please do not wrap trees in plastic and remove all ornaments and lights.
Christmas Tree Drop-off: Saturday, January 11, 2025 @ 8 am to noon ~ Thornton residents may drop off natural Christmas trees for recycling at Thornton's Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington Street. Use the north entrance with access from 126th Avenue east of Washington Street. Proof of residency is required. Do not wrap trees in plastic and be sure to remove all lights and ornaments.
Northglenn
The city has three locations for residents to drop off Christmas trees:
- Maintenance & Operations Facility, 12301 Claude Court
- Northwest Open Space, West 112th Avenue and Ranch Drive
- Jaycee Park, Leroy Drive and Irma Drive
These spots are available for drop-off from Dec. 26 through January 7, 2025. Please remove all decorations before dropping them off.
Residents can cut up their tree and put it in their trash cart. However, the lid of the cart must be closed. Trees put on the curb will NOT be picked up.
