Magical. Wondrous. Spooky. Dramatic - all words I would use to describe Pumpkin Nights!
We had the opportunity to attend Pumpkin Nights again this year, and I still highly recommend it as a fun, family Halloween outing!
So what is Pumpkin Nights?
Pumpkin Nights is a fun Halloween festival! The highlight are the magical lands created with thousands of hand carved pumpkins. It's a magical and fun evening - with or without the kids!
They changed the layout of the festival for 2019, and I think they did a great job. This year you'll walk into the main gathering space with food trucks, beverage stands, face painting, special performances, fire pits and bounce houses. Once you've met up with everyone attending, and grabbed an adult beverage, you can head through the different lands.
To go through the lands you'll venture along a half-mile walking path to discover the Forbidden Pumpkin City, A 40-foot long dragon, a ghostly pirate ship, an undersea wonderland, and more fantastical lands built using over 3,000 hand-carved real and artificial pumpkins. There’s magic around every corner. (My favorite was the Harry Potter themed land!) It took us about an hour to go through all of the lands, and we maybe went a little quicker this year as it was our second visit.
Pumpkin Nights was founded in 2016 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds with a mission to showcase local artists, and to celebrate the most magical time of year without the spooks and scares. Now, Pumpkin Nights runs through the month of October in four different cities across the US.
Each land has a mission to accomplish and a small detail to find. This was a change from last year, and the kids enjoyed it. (I will say we enjoyed the mission from last year just a little better.)

🎃 TIP #1: You have to buy tickets in advance for a date and time. 🎃 TIP #2: The first year we went at 6pm, when it wasn’t quite dark, which was too early. Get there just as it’s getting dark and you’ll get the best show. This year we arrived at 6:30pm and that seemed to work well!
🎃 TIP #3: It’s mostly outside, bring warm clothes for the kiddos so they don’t whine and complain!
