DoubleTree by Hilton Vail is a great base for skiing!

We were cold and exhausted from a long day of skiing, but when we arrived the DoubleTree by Hilton in Vail, we were offered friendly help with our bags, live guitar music in the beautiful lobby, fresh warm delicious cookies, and a super comfy place to relax!

Last year we tried doing day trips into the mountains to ski, and it was a NIGHTMARE! Waking up in the middle of the night to leave and still hitting traffic, then sitting in the car on the way home for hours after skiing. It is not something I’m interested in doing every again, except maybe on a week day, or after the apocalypse. So this year we decided that saving our sanity was worth spending the money for a couple nights up in the mountains. And let me tell you, it was perfect!

The DoubleTree by Hilton Vail is right next door to the Westside Café, which is one of our favorites in Vail. I knew the restaurant was connected to a hotel, but I didn’t realize that the hotel was the DoubleTree by Hilton Vail and had gotten a complete renovation. It is amazing! I loved walking into the gorgeous lobby, which was warm and homey, the perfect place to hang out after a long day of skiing. We honestly never felt the need to even leave the hotel in the evenings, even though Vail is one of my favorite places on earth.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Vail has standard hotel rooms, but they also have cool loft rooms that include a kitchen and family room area with a balcony. So after a long day of travelling and skiing we settled into our room, the kids properly messed up the beds by playing on them, and then we headed down to the Westside Café for dinner.

The next day we were skiing at Beaver Creek, but if we had been skiing at Vail, we could’ve taken the hotel shuttle right to the village, which is a huge perk. No waiting in line for the parking lots and then the long walk.

The second night we decided to explore the restaurants near the hotel, and there are a lot more there than used to be! We decided to go to YellowBelly, but there’s also a sushi place and an ale house (and McDonald’s if you’re looking for really quick and easy). Lots of affordable options for family dining, without having to park and walk into the village.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel to enjoy the hotel bar and the game room. The game room had caught the kids eye the first night, but we were all too exhausted to check it out thoroughly. My husband and I grabbed a drink at the bar while the kids played for a while. It’s just down the hall and we could see into the game room from our table, which was really nice. Then we joined them and competitive game of ping pong, foosball and the kids were loving the PacMan game. They also had bags boards and a pool table. Lots of fun to be had, and a nice touch! We were thrilled to have had the DoubleTree by Hilton Vail for our home base on this ski trip. It was a relaxing family ski weekend where we made a lot of wonderful memories. I can’t wait to go back!

Why we loved our stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Vail:

  • Super comfy newly renovated rooms
  • Shuttle to Vail
  • Live music nightly in the gorgeous bar
  • Game room to keep the kids entertained
  • Attached to Westside Café
  • Lots of low-key restaurants and Safeway nearby
  • Heated pool

We were given a free stay for this review, but all the opinions are my own, and we had the BEST time!
