I think it's so cool that we've lived here for almost ten years and are still finding new places to camp!
This past weekend we headed to Jackson Lake State Park. We didn't want to take any extra days off this time, so we were looking for something close that had a lake, and Jackson Lake State Park is an hour away, exactly what we were looking for!
Jackson Lake campground is pretty large, with several different camping areas. We had reserved a spot in the Fox Hills loop, which had a great view of the lake, and it seemed like most of the sites in this loop would have a lake view. Our site was nice and level and wasn't too close to the sites around us. We were surprised we couldn't see the mountains from this area, but we did get some beautiful sunsets and the star viewing was surprisingly good.
We spent most of our time at the West swim beach. This time of year the lake is really high (I've heard that it gets pretty low later in the summer into fall), so there wasn't much beach, but it was enough for the 5-10 families that were gathered there. The kids really enjoyed swimming, and I liked that the lake was really shallow for a long way past the beach. We still had them in their life vests if they went too far from shore, better safe than sorry!
The one drawback is it's pretty buggy. They didn't bother us much with bug spray on, so it wasn't too bad. But we did have two ticks follow us home, one on the dog and one on our daughter (luckily none of them attached!) We're thinking they came from the beach area because it backs up to a weedy marsh, so do some tick checks on your kids and furry family members if you're near that area.
