Summer Engineering Classes at WOW

July 1, 2021

Learning comes alive this summer (and away from computer screens) at WOW! Children's Museum in Lafayette with summer engineering classes that encourage hands-on exploration and critical thinking skills – plus playtime in the Museum!

This summer class series gives children in Grades 1st-3rd (ages 6-9) an exciting and informative insight into engineering. Centered on the engineering method, each session focuses on a different field: Civil, Aerospace, Electrical, Chemical/Biomedical, and Environmental Engineering.

Classes are held weekly on Fridays for 5-weeks, July 9 to August 6.
Space is limited to 15 children per class.

Civil Engineering Class

  • Friday, July 9 at 3:30pm-5:00pm
  • Learn to engineer! In this class, we’ll get to know what kind of engineer you are, build with our Rigamajig, and create inventions.

Aerospace Engineering Class

  • Friday, July 16 at 3:30pm-5:00pm
  • 3..2..1…blast off! In this class, we’ll learn about our solar system, build rockets, and use chemistry to launch rockets into ‘space’.

Electrical Engineering Class

  • Friday, July 23 at 3:30pm-5:00pm
  • It’s Electric! In this class, we’ll learn all about electricity and use it to create art and robots.

Chemical & Biomedical Engineering Class

  • Friday, July 30 at 3:30pm-5:00pm
  • Feel the Chemistry! In this class, we’ll learn about physical and chemical changes through cold and slimy science, then get to the heart of the matter using our EEK! Engineering kits to mimic what biomedical engineers are doing to fix broken hearts.

Environmental Engineering Class

  • Friday, August 6 at 3:30pm-5:00pm
  • Go green! In this class, we’ll learn how natural materials are used in dyes, plant a seed to take home with you, and take some time to get to know the Discovery Garden. Wear clothes that can get wet!

Cost & Registration:

  1. $30 per class or $125 for all 5 classes
