Make Summer Memories at the Gaylord Rockies

August 4, 2021

When we travel together as a family we always make the best memories, and you know we try to travel as much as can! But we’ve never done a staycation close to home until we visited the Gaylord Rockies

It turns out you don’t have to travel far to make wonderful family memories, we had a blast together. We were able to unplug from our daily lives at home where so many chores and responsibilities beckon to us all day and just have FUN as a family!

We spent two nights - a Sunday and Monday night – at the Gaylord to celebrate my son’s 7th birthday, and I would highly recommend it for other families.

Reasons to Make Memories with Your Family at the Gaylord Rockies

πŸ’¦ The Pools and Lazy River at Arapahoe Springs

We spent most of our time swimming in and resting by the pool and lazy river, it was so relaxing. We were able to check into our room early, but even if your room isn’t ready, you can have early access to Arapahoe Springs to make a full day of fun on your arrival day.

I loved that we didn’t need to leave the pool all day because it was so easy to grab drinks and food in the pool area. The kids loved having lunch poolside, and we enjoyed being able to enjoy a cocktail while watching the kids in the pool. (The frozen pina coladas were really yummy!)

😎 Summer of More Family Activities

The Gaylord Rockies always has lots of family-friendly fun available to help make those memories! Our kids loved the Buccaneer Bash poolside with the pirates, a free activity that included fun games with pirate prizes.

Other Summer of More activities include:

  • Pirate and Princess Academy
  • Pirate and Princess Art Studio
  • The Shiny Stash Scavenger Hunt
  • S’mores on Pinyon Patio
  • The Captains Quarters
  • The Captains Hidden Treasure Escape Room
  • Build-a-Bear workshop
  • Family Movies in Princess Evergreen’s Royal Theater
  • Animal Encounters in the Grand Lodge
  • Wildlife Augmented Reality by bublyTM

The Gaylord Rockies offers different activities for every season. In the fall it will be time for Goblins & Giggles and a few months later they’ll be celebrating Christmas at Gaylord Rockies.

🍝 Lots of Dining Options on Property

The Gaylord Rockies has so many different food options on the property, and don’t forget about room service! We grabbed dinner to-go from Mountain Pass Sports Bar and enjoyed it out on the Pinyon Patio lawn one night. Dinner was delicious, but the highlight was the sunset as we enjoyed our dinner and the kids played on the lawn.

🏨 Luxurious Property

The Gaylord Rockies goes above and beyond to make their property feel luxurious. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and the common spaces have thoughtful touches. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful art around the property, everywhere I looked I saw something surprising and beautiful.

 My Favorite Moments

  • Floating down the lazy river with my kids for hours
  • Watching the kids make friends in the pool while I sipped my pina colada watching them play in a relaxing pool lounger
  • Seeing the kids’ excitement at winning pirate prizes at the Buccaneer Bash. My son won an eye patch, and my daughter won a pirate scarf and they were thrilled!
  • Watching the kids play tag with new friends on the lawn while my husband and I sipped on cocktails and watched the sunset with a gorgeous mountain view
  • Snuggling my exhausted kids at the end of the night in our room watching a movie

 MacKid Mom Tips:

  • We love traveling on off-days to miss crowds and I was glad that we had chosen a Sunday and Monday night stay. When we arrived on Sunday it was busy, but by 4 pm the crowds had moved out and it was nice and quiet in the pools.
  • Lounge chairs with prime viewing of the pool go early. My husband snuck down when the pool opened to grab chairs and then he worked by the pool for a while until we were ready to join him. (Which also gave him some precious quiet time and a beautiful view while he worked!)
  • Arapahoe Springs stays open pretty late (10 pm during our visit), and in the late evenings, the pool looked so peaceful. If you choose to go on an adult staycation, revisiting the pool in the evening is a great idea!

School starts soon, but there’s still time to sneak in Summer of More memories for your family too - or book a stay during the Halloween or Christmas season to make holiday memories! Head here to make your reservation!

I was provided a media rate for my visit, but all opinions are my own.
