Honor Your Ancestors at Local Día de los Muertos Celebrations

Día de los Muertos is a celebration of life — of the memories and bonds that tie us together that most certainly survive one’s death into the beyond. It is believed that for a brief 24 hours during Día de los Muertos, loved ones who have died can be reunited with the living for a big celebration of life. 

This celebration is an energetic, colorful event designed to demonstrate love and respect for family members who have died. Honor and celebrate your loved ones at a local Día de los Muertos event.

Día de los Muertos (Ages 3-6) | Anythink York Street ~ EVENT IS FULL

  • When: October 19 @ 10:30 a.m
  • Where: Anythink York Street | 8990 York Street, Thornton
  • What: Preschoolers are naturally curious about the world around them. Join us for science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) activities perfect for kids.

Chicos Nichos: Art with Chicano Humanities & Arts Council (Ages 6+) | Anythink Perl Mack

  • When: October 25 @ 4:30 p.m
  • Where: Anythink Perl Mack | 7611 Hilltop Circle, Denver
  • What: Join the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council (CHAC) to learn about and decorate “Nichos.” “Nichos” are commonly found in homes and public places, displayed on walls, pedestals or Day of the Dead altars. Made from wood or tin and often painted with bright colors, they provide a stage-like setting for an object or collection of objects that have great significance.

Día de los Muertos | Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery

  • When: October 28 @ 10 a.m
  • Where: Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery | 10201 Grant St, Thornton
  • What: Families can enjoy traditional dancers, music, face painting, altar, bouncy house, sugar skull decorating, food trucks, and a variety of vendors for all ages.
  • Price: FREE!

Día de Muertos Parade & Festival | Civic Center Park

  • When: October 28 @ 11am
  • Where: Civic Center Park | 101 14th Ave, Denver
  • What: Join Viva Colorado fora  Día de Muertos Parade that starts at 11 a.m. on Santa Fe Drive at 7th Avenue, with creative floats, marching bands, ballet folkloricos, fire trucks, catrinas, Coco characters, lowriders and lots of colorful costumes. It will head to Civic Center Park, where a festival starts at noon with food and drink vendors, exhibitors, a Catrina contest, games, an altar exhibition, and international music from around the world, along with special performances by Banda Los Mazatlecos, Sonora Dinamita and much more!

Dia de los Muertos Celebration |  Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

  • When: October 29 @ 10:30am - 12:00pm
  • Where: Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge  |  6550 Gateway Rd, Commerce City
  • What: Celebrate Day of the Dead at the Shelter with the Family this Sunday! Paint a wooden bison skull in the Discovery Room and take it home to decorate your own Day of the Dead altar.

Sugar Skulls Presented by Museo de Las Americas (Ages 8-17) | Anythink Brighton

  • When: October 30 @ 12 p.m
  • Where: Anythink Brighton | 327 E Bridge Street, Brighton
  • What: Decorate sugar skulls. Create marigolds and papel picado. Through this workshop, gain a better understanding of how life and death are celebrated during Día de los Muertos and celebrate your loved ones through art.

Thornton Día de los Muertos | McAllister Park

  • When: November 4 @ 12-5p.m.
  • Where: McAllister Park, 750 W 96th Ave | Thornton
  • What: Visitors will enjoy food trucks, face-painting, music by Elisa Garcia and Mariachi Sangre Mexicana, Thornton youth and Fiesta Colorado dancers, a stilt walker, art market, ancestor altar, photo booth, Butterfly Pavilion monarch info table, and Catrina costume contest with prizes.
