Aerial Wall Classes
In this exciting technique class offered at The Apollo Center, dancers will take to the air and turn the dance floor on its side! Wall dancing or vertical dance refers to an aerial performance apparatus where performers are suspended in the air with a rope and a harness using the wall as the new floor to move and dance on.
Using the same equipment as rock climbers, students will learn the basics of rigging, ascending, descending, and wall safety. Class will consist of conditioning drills on the ground to help strengthen essential abdominal muscles as well as technical exercises on the wall to help students become comfortable with a new spatial orientation. Once simple static positions have been acquired, students will explore the possibilities with the pendulum of the rope.
The class will move on to learning choreography phrases that will help students combine their skills into one seamless dance.
