😛😋Tongue Movement and Positioning Can Affect Our Entire Body!

March 10, 2022

Why does the tongue matter?

The tongue has the power to create ideal development and structure, but it can also create an unideal environment.

When the tongue is used in an ideal way the airway is open, speech is developed properly and the jaw is developed to be substantial for tooth growth and alignment - a person can thrive!

Used in an unideal way, the airway can be minimized and teeth alignment can shift causing jaw shifting. These misalignments can lead to cranial and neck issues as well as tension throughout the face and body. It can impact your entire body!

Thankfully, the tongue is adaptable!

With Orofacial Myology exercises, you have the power to change the muscular tone of your tongue and develop ideal behaviors that can truly make significant improvements to various issues.

Airways can be increased leading to improved breathing, teeth can realign, TMJ pain and neck discomfort can be minimized, speech can improve, eating can be easier and the sudden biting of your tongue while chewing can be eliminated as well!

How do I create ideal tongue behaviors?

Reach out to Brittany at Joyful Breathing in Northglenn to learn how Orofacial Myology might be able to help!

At Joyful Breathing, Brittany works to:

  • train the tongue to rest in the correct spot
  • train breathing behaviors to be through the nose and from the diaphragm
  • train the surrounding muscles to be efficient for everyday living activities such as speaking and swallowing.

"Brittany is thoughtful and deliberate with her workouts and coaching. Not only is she helping me, but also my 2 year-old and my husband. We all have very different needs and our plans are catered to that. I highly recommend her! I also love that she has her calendar available so you can easily book times that work for you." - Natalie H.

"Both my son and I have experienced positive changes from our Myofunctional therapy. I highly recommend Brittany for your journey." - Alysha D.

Brittany became interested in Orofacial Myology and Breathing Education through personal experience.

She found a passion for Orofacial Myology initially as a patient seeking care for dental crowding and severe clenching. She ultimately learned so much as a patient and was able to pinpoint the jaw issues, avoiding relatively risky jaw surgery.

After going through the process and seeing the positive changes it made on her smile, confidence, and breathing, Brittany decided to pursue a career in Orofacial Myology to share what she had learned.

Brittany combined Orofacial Myology with Breathing Therapy later in her career after learning how much the two therapies complemented each other. She loves how Breathing Therapy sees the person rather than the “issue”, which aligns with the way she treats patients.
