Joyful Breathing offers Myofunctional Therapy for Kids w/ Tongue Ties

March 31, 2022

The first few months of being a new parent are hard enough, but those stresses can amplify when your newborn is having trouble sleeping and eating well. A common, treatable cause of baby restlessness can be attributed to a tongue or lip tie. As experts in the field, Joyful Breathing of Northglenn can help you identify a tongue/lip tie and offer solutions for better breathing and oral behaviors.

Signs that a Baby may be Tongue or Lip Tied

  • Poor latch or suction
  • Clicking with breastfeeding
  • Gas or reflux
  • Excessive drooling
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Breastfeeding pain for mom
  • Tongue staying low in mouth and not lifting up (not able to move well)

Getting Help with Orofacial Myology

What is Orofacial Myology? Orofacial Myology is exercise-based education directed toward the muscles of the face including the lips and tongue. The goal of orofacial myology is to have positive behaviors that provide proper facial development, muscular tone, and maintenance.

Often times orofacial myology is needed before and after a frenectomy (tongue tie revision) as it is not natural or instinctive for the tongue to go up.

Joyful Breathing offers therapy for babies to help heal from a frenectomy as well as continue developing proper tongue use for ideal craniosacral development, sucking strength for breastfeeding, nasal breathing for wellness, and consideration for future dental growth and alignment.

All ages can benefit from this and with the baby stage, a lot of is preventative work to avoid what can occur within the first 5 years of life; development of sleep apnea, jaw alignment issues, crowding of teeth, narrow mouth, anxiety, etc.

Brittany Bailey and Joyful Breathing

About Brittany

Brittany became interested in Orofacial Myology and Breathing Education through personal experience.

She found a passion for Orofacial Myology initially as a patient seeking care for dental crowding and severe clenching. She ultimately learned so much as a patient and was able to pinpoint the jaw issues, avoiding relatively risky jaw surgery.

After going through the process and seeing the positive changes it made on her smile, confidence, and breathing, Brittany decided to pursue a career in Orofacial Myology to share what she had learned.

Brittany combined Orofacial Myology with Breathing Therapy later in her career after learning how much the two therapies complemented each other. She loves how Breathing Therapy sees the person rather than the “issue”, which aligns with the way she treats patients.
