Children who don't read during the summer months are at risk of falling behind their peers when they return to school in the fall. One way to avoid the summer slide is by participating in a summer reading program.


 Anythink Libraries mySummer: Read, Think, Do

PROGRAM ENDS ON JULY 31, 2024

From June 1 through July 31, new and returning customers are invited to design a summer of fun and learning that fits their own needs and wishes. Wander into an Anythink location to learn a new skill, read inspiring stories and engage in experiences on a self-directed journey. Dare to explore the unknown and embark on adventures all summer long. 

Discover and celebrate quests of all kinds with engaging programs at all Anythink branches. There are over 100 fun programs — many hosted alongside local partners and artists — planned for the mySummer 2024 events calendar. 

Sign up for mySummer online or at your local Anythink. Join in at one of the many kick-off events to sign up for programs, receive a free water bottle, accompanying stickers, meet Anythink staff and enjoy fun summer-themed activities.

 Westminster Library Summer Reading Program

PROGRAM ENDS ON JULY 31, 2024

From June 1st through July 31st, read and listen to books, attend programs, and score fun swag! Everyone who registers receives a prize. Come by the College Hill or Irving Street Libraries for your Summer Reading log, or register and track your progress with Beanstack.

 Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program

PROGRAM ENDS ON AUGUST 31, 2024

Kids in 1st through 6th grade can read any eight books this summer and record them in a Summer Reading Journal. Bring the completed Reading Journal into a Barnes & Noble store from July 1 through August 31, 2024, and your child gets to choose a free book from the list featured in the journal.

 Chuck E. Cheese Reading Rewards Calendar

Download your free reading chart from Chuck E. Cheese. Then get reading! Children receive ten free Play Points (with food purchase) for recording their daily reading habits for two weeks.

 Denver Library: Summer of Adventure

PROGRAM ENDS ON AUGUST 10, 2024

The Denver Public Library's Summer of Adventure program encourages youth from birth to 12th grade to READ, MAKE, and EXPLORE. The library will provide opportunities for informal learning and activities to help youth retain academic and social skills throughout their summer vacation.

The Summer of Adventure program registration opens online on Saturday, June 1.Register online or visit your local Denver Public Library branch. You’ll get a printed Adventure Guide to inspire reading, making and exploring all summer and a registration prize. The last day to redeem prizes is August 10.

NEW! This year collect 5 prizes and earn a VIP ticket to the first ever city wide Completion Party at the Denver Zoo.

 The New York Times Summer Reading Contest

PROGRAM ENDS ON AUGUST 16, 2024

Middle and high school students worldwide are invited to participate in The New York Times Summer Reading Contest from June 7 through August 16, 2024. 

Every Friday for 10 weeks beginning on June 7, we will publish a post asking the same question: “What got your attention in The Times this week?” That’s where you should submit your response any time until the following Friday at 9 a.m. Eastern, when we will close that post and open a new one that asks the same question. On Aug. 9 they'll post the final question of the summer, open until 9 a.m. on Aug. 16.

You can enter every week, or any week, all summer long, but you may only submit once each week.

Students can enter as they always have by submitting a short written response — or they can make a video up to 90 seconds long.

 Pizza Hut Camp Book It Program

Children in Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade can join Camp BOOK IT! Track and reward your kids' reading for June, July, and August 2024.

 Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Challenge

PROGRAM ENDS ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2024

Ages 0-13 can join Scholastic's Summer Reading Challenge! Kids will be able to track their summer reading by reading every day and maintaining a Reading Streak™ in Home Base. 

The longer a child extends their Reading Streak™, the more digital experiences they earn! Kids can read any book of their choice and download and print a report of their reading progress at any time.

Kids can visit the summer zone in Scholastic Home Base, a completely free digital destination which offers stories, characters, games, and a community of readers. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7.

The program runs from May 9 through September 12, 2024.
