14 Anythink Library Events to Add to Your Calendar in September 2022

Anythink Libraries sure knows how to have a good time! From storytimes to cooking classes, hands-on projects to live entertainment, their event calendar is loaded with opportunities for visitors of all ages.

Take a peek at some of the fun, specialty events coming to your local library this September. Be sure to register ahead to book your spot at these popular kid-friendly events.

Note: Events are listed in chronological order by the first event date for each series. Inclement weather may affect outdoor events so plan accordingly.


Embryology: Baby Chicks! | Brighton
Thursday, September 8, 4-5pm ~ All ages ~ No Advanced Registration Required

Embryology returns to Anythink Brighton! Learn about life inside of an egg as we watch chicken eggs develop and hatch. Stop by throughout the month to learn more about the hatching process.

On Tuesday, September 15 between 3:30pm and 4:30pm, stop by the library to use light to see inside the developing eggs. The chicks are expected to hatch the week of Sept. 26.


Snack on Science | Brighton
Mondays, September 12-26, 2-3pm ~ Ages 7-12 ~ Registration Required

Science never tasted so good. Join us for fun sessions and learn to make a tasty treat.

Cooking for Kids with Sticky Fingers Cooking | Huron
Monday, September 12, 5-6pm ~ Ages 3-8 ~ Registration Required
Wednesday, September 14, 3-4pm ~ Ages 3-8 ~ Registration Required

Follow a recipe inspired by the book, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” by Judi Barrett, and make Cloudy with a Chance of Spaghetti UnMeatballs, the fastest tomato sauce ever, and Italian peach granita.


T-Shirt Transformation: Bleach Art | Wright Farms
Monday, September 12, 5-6:30pm ~ Tweens & Teens ~ Registration Required

In this monthly series, join artist Hollis Cato to learn four methods to breathe new life into a t-shirt gathering dust in your closet. For the first session, participants should bring a colored 100% cotton shirt to create bleach art.


Lizzie's Mobile Axe Throwing | Brighton
Tuesday, September 13, 3-5pm
Thursday, September 29, 3-5pm

Put on your best plaid shirt, stretch out your arms, and get ready to show off your axe throwing skills with Lizzie's Axe Throwing. Participants are required to fill out a waiver form in order to participate and ages 17 and younger will need to have a parent/legal guardian present.


STEAM: Balloon Race Cars | Brighton
Tuesday, September 13, 5-6pm ~ Ages 7-12 ~ Registration Required

Create your own balloon race car, and learn about potential and kinetic energy. Experiment to see how fast and far your car can travel.


Quest for Gold with the Molly Brown House Museum | York Street
Wednesday, September 14, 3:30-4:30pm ~ Grades 2-6 ~ No Advanced Registration Required

Join us for an interactive hands-on program. Study real mining artifacts to investigate what life was like as a miner and how mining works.


Cat Castles | Wright Farms
Saturday, September 17, 10-11:30am ~ Ages 12+ ~ Registration Required

Cats love a good box! Treat your feline friend to the home of their dreams by constructing a “paw-some” cat castle out of cardboard boxes and various decorative items.


Shakespeare in the Parking Lot | Brighton
Saturday, September 17, 12-1pm ~ All ages ~ No Advanced Registration Required

Join us for Shakespeare in the Parking Lot and enjoy an abridged performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” hosted by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Families are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs for this fun-filled, outdoor family-friendly performance.


Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off Celebration | Commerce City
Saturday, September 17, 1:30-4pm ~ All ages ~ No Advanced Registration Required

Join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month to honor and recognize the achievements and contributions of our Hispanic community. This event will include live entertainment and free food!

Enjoy live entertainment from local Folklorico dancers and mariachi musical performances, as well as face painting, crafts, and games. Free street tacos, churros, and beverages will be provided (while supplies last). Don't forget to give our mechanical bull a try!


Intro to Henna | Huron
Wednesday, September 21, 2-4pm ~ Teens ~ Registration Required

Learn about the history and cultural practices of henna, as well as how to make henna paste and use basic design elements.


Bat Tales with CU Science Discovery | Wright Farms
Thursday, September 22, 4-5pm ~ Ages 5-12 ~ Registration Required

How large is a vampire bat? How do bats care for their young? Discover the answers to these and more questions as you learn about the natural history of these often-misunderstood animals.


LEGO City with the Molly Brown House Museum | York Street
Wednesday, September 28, 3:30-4:30pm ~ Grades 2-6 ~ No Advanced Registration Required

Build your own cities both past and present. Learn about saving historic structures, the evolution of a city and the importance of historic preservation.


Radical Reptiles with Nature's Educators | Wright Farms
Thursday, September 29, 5:30-6:30pm ~ All ages ~ Registration Recommended

Reptiles and amphibians (herptiles) are amazing creatures! Discover what herptiles eat, find out where they live, and learn about all their adaptations. Meet a handful of live herptiles up close.
