Our family loves to ski, but it's hard to find affordable ways to enjoy this activity as a family!
We've found an incredible gem in Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains (formerly known as River Run)!
I received an overnight stay at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains to facilitate the writing of this article. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
We've been big fans of camping at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains since they opened several years ago. It's a gorgeous setting and Granby is nature's playground, plus they have a fantastic heated pool and other wonderful amenities. But we recently just realized they offer fantastic lodging for playing in the mountains in the winter too!
Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain offers a wide selection of cabins. For our visit, we stayed in one of the Bearclaw 2-Bedroom Cabins, which can accommodate up to six people. The one-bedroom with a queen bed and second bedroom with bunk beds (twin on the top, double on the bottom) was the perfect fit for our family. Plus, the fully stocked kitchen allowed us to prepare food after a long day of skiing, making this adventure even more affordable. But don't worry, if you're too exhausted to cook you can head to the Summit Bar & Grill onsite for a meal, or give one of the restaurants in Granby a try, it's super close.
The location couldn't be more perfect for skiing too. It's a quick 15-minute drive up to Granby Ranch (our favorite) and about 30 minutes over to Winter Park. We were able to get in three days of skiing during our 2-night stay. We drove up on Wednesday and went straight to the ski hill for a little more than a half day. After staying in the cabin Wednesday night we were back on the mountain for a full day on Thursday. Then on Friday we checked out, packed everything up, and headed to the mountain to ski for about 4 hours before heading back home. That's just enough time for everyone to get back in the groove of skiing and also to be totally exhausted!
But there are lots of other winter activities in the area. We saw plenty of snowmobile trailers in the resort and there's great ice fishing nearby too. I'm sure there's plenty of winter hiking and snowshoeing available in the area too, we just didn't explore that activity during our visit.
We're heading up for a few more days of skiing later this month and I can't wait to visit our home away from home at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains! (Want to think about summer instead? They're running some good promos to lock in your camping days. Don't have an RV? They have airstreams and Conestoga wagons your family can stay in!)
If you're ready to skip the rat race of traffic to go for a day trip to ski, I can't highly recommend a stay at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains enough!
