Publisher's Note - July 20th - Family Hike, Acreage visit + Chess Camp

July 20, 2023

Hello Macaronians!

I'm looking forward to the dip in temperatures this week, although the crazy hot weather didn't seem so bad after such a cool spring. It also feels like we went from celebrating the 4th of July to being inundated with back to school messages. I can't believe we're at that point of summer already, it always seems to go so fast!

What were we up to this week?

We went for a family hike at South Mesa trailhead last week and it was gorgeous! It was on one of the ridiculously hot days, but we brought lots of water and enjoyed the gorgeous wild flowers and views.

On Friday my son had to have some cavities taken care of and two baby teeth extracted. He was terrified, but was such a champ, and afterward said it wasn't as bad as he thought (and I felt the same way too!) We go to Hardy Pediatric Dentistry up in Erie because they have a laser they can use for cavities, so it's a little bit less of a thing for kids.

My cousin was in town this weekend and we took a trip up to Acreage. She was heading down south so we wanted her to get a great view of the mountains from up here, and also it has a great area for kids to run around! We hadn't been up there in a few years and they've expanded the outdoor area even more. They now have an actual playground, tons of hammocks, and of course lawn games. The area by the road seems to be fully fenced now too to keep wandering kiddos safer. Seats inside are always hard to come by, so we lucked out and got seats under an umbrella in the yard. I was really bummed that we couldn't order the flights in the yard though. But we had put our name on the list and ended up inside after an hour where we could order those.

On Sunday I had my supper club and our theme was pizza, it was delicious! Two of the girls had ooni pizza ovens, one propane and one wood chips. We've been interested in getting one and I had been leaning toward getting the wood chip version. But as I watched them work I learned so much about both models! The bad news is I'm even more confused about which one I want, lol, but the pizzas were delicious!

This week the kids are participating in Chess Camp of the Rockies, so I'm hanging out in Golden the days they're at camp. I got to enjoy lunch at Cafe 13 with a friend on Monday and it was one of the best breakfast burritos I've had, so delicious. It's always nice to get out of our little bubble and explore, so many things to see in this big beautiful world!

Phew that was a lot for this week! Time to wrap it up and get this newsletter in your inboxes, and I can't wait to see you there again next week!

Peace, love, and macaroni,

Susan
