Our Cookie Decorating Class at Sugar Bloom Studio (in The Orchard)

November 2, 2023

My daughter is obsessed with Wednesday Addams, and when I saw that Sugar Bloom Studio had a Wednesday Addams cookie decorating class coming up, I knew we needed to go!

I'd been following Sugar Bloom Studio for a while and loved seeing the amazing events they've started to offer. They've hosted storytimes and cookie decorating with princesses, and so many other events for kids and adults. They also rent out their gorgeous space for special events like baby showers and bridal showers. So I was excited to get into their space and see it for myself!

I was offered free attendance at this event to share my thoughts with my followers, and I'm so glad I have this opportunity to share it with all of you!

Our Cookie Decorating Class

When we arrived at Sugar Bloom Studio on a Friday evening the tables were beautifully decorated and we had witch hats hanging above our heads. I loved the Halloween vibes! Each place setting had a tray of four cookies, two piping bags, and then a few shared piping bags in the middle of the table. We had VIP tickets so we received a drink and absolutely delicious cookies to munch on before the event started.

Andrea, the owner and Season 4 Christmas Cookie Challenge Winner on Food Network in 2020, started the class by showing us the beautiful designs we'd be creating. She also gave us an intro to the tools we had at our place settings and the best way to use them. And then we jumped in!

The class was 90 minutes long and went by really fast! I had no idea how long each cookie took to decorate. We spent about 30 minutes on some cookies, and just under 20 minutes on some of the others. My daughter and I hadn't decorated in this style before, so it went a little slowly at first, but we figured out the techniques and were making lots of progress as we moved on to each cookie.

Andrea was sitting at the front of the room with a screen that showed exactly what she was doing, and she wandered around giving us tips and tricks. You can tell she does this a lot, she worked quickly and her designs were perfection. Unlike ours, lol! Although I was really impressed with our progress from cookie to cookie. Our first cookies were a little rough, and then the final cookies had a nice gloss on them. Wednesday Addams was the hardest cookie with lots of layering and details. I didn't get mine to look like Andrea's cookies, but some elements were very close, and that was satisfying!

Upcoming Classes

Want to have this experience for yourself? Sugar Bloom Studio has lots of opportunities coming up in the next few weeks. These classes are a great opportunity to catch up with a girl friend, and would also be a really fun date night. The classes that aren't for kids might be a little quick for young kids, but tweens and teens would feel successful. It was a fun evening for my 12 year-old daughter and me!
