Publisher's Note - April 25th - Running behind!

April 25, 2024

Hello Macaronians!

I'm running behind today, but I wanted to finish my new Restaurants for Celebrating Guide for you this week! It's a guide I've been wanting to do for a while because I see the questions get asked so often in the local moms' groups. These are our tried and true restaurants that would be fabulous for a celebration, so make sure you check it out!

What were we up to last week?

  • We saw Mamma Mia at Frederick High School, and I was impressed! That group has so much talent, and you can tell they put in the hours. I would highly recommend any show there! Our friends at MacKID Broomfield told us about the show, and our daughters are good friends, so it was a fun way to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday!

  • We had a crazy weekend with two birthday parties my daughter attended and Supper Club for me on Sunday! My husband headed out of town this weekend, and with my daughter away, I needed a sitter to take care of my son so I could go out for Supper Club.Jovie Broomfield came to my rescue! Within two days' notice, they found and booked a sitter for me, and my son had a fantastic time playing with her while I was gone!
  • This month's Supper Club theme was skills, and it was fun to see how our hosts weaved that into our meal. We started with a layered PBJ cocktail, which was incredible. I had no idea there was such a thing as peanut butter whiskey. How could I have lived this long without knowing that?!?!? I now know what cocktail I'll order when we're out for a nice dinner. It was SO good! I prepared Spring Rolls as our appetizer and had to practice my julienne skills. But also, I'd never worked with rice paper before, so that was a good skill to work on, too. Our main dish was steak, and our host cooked it on the flat top, which was a fun change. She made the perfect crust on it! Dessert was a pavlova, and two people ended up bringing this dish, but it was a very happy accident! Both pavlovas were made with the same recipe but were so different. I loved comparing them side by side!
  • Other than preparing for my daughter's big birthday sleepover this weekend, the rest of the week has been pretty quiet. We've been baking cakes, and I made pastry creme today as a filler. Her theme is Hamilton, so I'm excited to decorate the house and listen to Hamilton as they hang out and do teenage girl stuff.

What are we up to this week?

  • We have tickets to Monster Jam on Saturday, but I'm sad that the weather is not looking great for this event! I'm not sure if they'll cancel for the weather, but I don't really want to sit in the rain all night. So I guess we'll see what happens!
  • My daughter's big homeschool program performance of Seussical is this week! They've worked so hard all year, and I can't wait to see their performance.
  • My son and I are going to start working with Brittany at Joyful Breathing this week. I've had some problems with my sinuses, which has made my breathing horrible at night, and now I have severe sleep apnea. Joyful Breathing has been a MacKID partner for a while, so I'm glad I already knew that myofunctional therapy could be helpful. None of my doctors even mentioned it! I'm so excited to work with her on a personal level now! My son is also a mouth breather at night, so we're going to go through the process together. I can't wait to share it all with you, too!

That's all from me this week. Have a great week with your kiddos, and I'll see you next Thursday in your inboxes!

Peace, love, and macaroni,

Susan
