🌻🚜 We went to the U-Pick Sunflower Fields at Anderson Farms this weekend and had a fabulous time!
I didn't know what to expect, but all my expectations were exceeded. I highly recommend visiting before the sunflower season ends this weekend!
[Check out the video from our visit below and the tips, but keep scrolling to see a detailed recap of our visit!]
Here's more about our visit:
We entered Anderson Farm in the same area as the pumpkin patch entrance. A few attractions were open, but most of the area was blocked off (I'm sure to prepare for the Halloween season). The open attractions included duck races, wall games, the tractor slide, teeter-totters, and basketball hoops. (Watch your little ones' legs on the teeter-totters. They're fun, but if you let your legs get under the seat, it will hurt! There are signs, but my son learned the hard way!)
The sunflower field tractors leave from the entrance area, not in the back where the pumpkin patch tractors are. There was a small line for the tractors, but it moved quickly and was in the shade. Once we were on the tractor, the ride was breezy and shaded, and then we arrived at the beautiful sunflower area!
Entering the sunflower area, we saw big tents with picnic tables, a food hut with lots of choices, and lots and lots of flowers! During our visit, there was also a pick-and-paint event happening. I'm not an artist, but it looked so idyllic to paint in the middle of a sunflower field! Anderson Farms has created a magical space. It was like entering a whole new world. I don't know if I've ever seen something so Instagrammable!
We purchased our $10 cups in the field instead of at the entrance, and I appreciated not having to carry the buckets and clippers before getting to the sunflowers. My parents joined us, so we got three cups of sunflowers, filled them with water, and headed out into the fields.
Walking through the fields, we saw a vast variety of sunflowers. I enjoyed walking the fields and finding the perfect stems to add to our cups. I was surprised that I liked it better than pumpkin hunting! Instead of just getting one pumpkin, I got to search for the perfect stems, and I got at least 20 stems in my cup!
Once we gathered all our sunflowers, I headed to the rows of flowers to add some accent colors. There were so many options!
Many groups were arranging flowers on the picnic tables, but we had crammed so many flowers in our cups that we decided to arrange them at home. So we got back in line for the tractors (there is no shade for this line, but you can use your sunflowers) and returned to the entrance.
It was a fantastic day, and we came home with many memories and beautiful sunflowers! We have so many sunflowers divided between six vases on my kitchen counter. It's a beautiful sight!
Here are a few tips from our visit:
🌻Wait to buy your containers until you get to the sunflower field so you don't have to carry them around.
🚜Bring water to the sunflower field. I didn't want to carry my water bottle around, and I seriously regretted it—it was hot! I ended up buying $3.50 bottles of water.
🌻Bringing a shade umbrella for the fields might be a good idea. It was hot and sweaty out there. But then you need to bring a friend for an extra set of hands to cut the flowers.
🚜Entrance tickets are only $10 now because of a hail storm that moved through earlier in the month. That's a fantastic price for this experience!
🌻Consider bringing a sturdy container with water in the car. We crammed so many flowers in our cups that they weren't getting enough water and got a little droopy. Once we got home, most of them perked up well, but they would have appreciated a little more space and water right away.
🚜Cut your stems fairly tall, and you can get more in the cups.
🌻Cut some buds to continue enjoying the sunflowers as they bloom.
🚜I took my older kids (10 and 13) and had a great time with them, but I'm not sure how much fun it would be with really young kids. It might be a little tricky to get things picked. However, there are so many photo ops that it's a great chance to get some cute pictures of your little ones.
The sunflower fields are only open until the 24th, so get there this weekend if you'd like to experience this!
