Publisher's Note - October 3rd - How is it October?

October 3, 2024

Hello Macaronians!

I can feel fall in the air, and I love it! It makes the 90-degree days feel a little less oppressive as we move into cooler temperatures.

What were we up to this week?

  • We've started a basement cleanup project now that the rabbit has moved in. We got so much organizing and purging done, and it felt really good! I'm heading back down there this weekend to continue the work. We found a nice little treat in our deep freezer. Apparently, there was still something in it, and it got unplugged. Not a surprise you want to see, it was very, very smelly!
  • On Sunday, I hosted my Supper Club with the theme of Rick Bayless. We had so much delicious food and yummy margaritas. I made a green mole different from anything I've ever had and enjoyed it very much.
  • We had our first parent-teacher conferences in the public school system on Tuesday. My daughter's teachers were great, and talking with them in person was good. We learned so much and feel more confident supporting our daughter through this new experience.
  • I have book club tonight, and we'll discuss White Noise by Don Delillo. The book was written in the 1990s and highly awarded. I loved some of his writing, but the plot was hard to follow. It all felt very random. But some books are the kind of books that you analyze and write papers about. I think this was one of them! A movie was made based on the book in 2020, and that actually looks really good, so I'm adding that to my watch list.

What are we up to next week?

  • This weekend, I have a Halloween party with my women's networking group (Polka Dot Powerhouse). The theme is the 90s, and I decided to dress like Corey from Empire Records, one of my favorite movies from that era. It should be fun to see what everyone else comes up with!
  • I'm also taking the kids to see the Wild Robot movie this weekend. We read the book together several years ago and fell in love with all of the characters. I can't wait to see it come to life on the big screen.
  • Our 4-H Club, Boots & Buckles, with The Giggling Life Care Farm, is ready to kick off our next year with our first meeting next week. We learned a lot from last year, and I'm looking forward to seeing all the changes we've decided to make while moving into this new year.
  • My daughter has her first choir concert next week and I'm looking forward to seeing the hard work they've done. She's constantly humming the songs so it will be nice to see it performed with the full choir.

That's it for me this week, have a great week with your kiddos!

Peace, love, and macaroni,

Susan
