My Breathing & Sleep Apnea Journey with Joyful Breathing - Part Three

November 13, 2024

Big things are happening in my breathing journey! Are you ready for an update?

But first, if you haven't read parts one and two, head there to get caught up!

My son and I have been diligent about our tongue exercises, but we reached a point where the exercises alone aren't enough. So Brittany sent us to a  local airway health center with a dentist that she highly recommends for a consult.

During our consult, the dentist assessed our mouths and asked lots of questions. As Brittany had thought, we both have tongue ties that would benefit from a release. So that's our next step, and we're scheduled to do it next week! (Yikes, and yay?!)

The dentist doing our releases was helpful with information, but I'm glad we had a pre-procedure check-in with Brittany last week.

She reviewed the progress of our current stretches and confirmed that we were doing great work to prepare for the release. These stretches are so important before and after a tongue tie release to ensure the tissue doesn't join back together. So we're continuing our current stretches, and she's given us a list of what to do immediately afterward.

Brittany also discussed what to expect with the tongue tie release procedure. I was a little scared, but how she described the procedure made me feel more at ease. I've had root canals, and this sounds like a piece of cake compared to that! My son and I plan to take it easy on the day of our procedure and cuddle up together to heal. Then, we'll be accountability partners for starting our stretches two days afterward and keeping them up!

I'm so curious about the changes I may see in my breathing and body after the release. When I have my neck and mouth adjusted at the chiropractor, I can often feel it in my lower back. So once my tongue tie is released, I'm curious to see what changes might happen with tightness in my neck, back, and shoulders. And anytime we do our tongue exercises, my jaw gets so tense. I'm thinking the release will have a huge effect on my jaw, too.

I'll update you a few weeks after our procedure and let you know how we're doing and what changes we're seeing!
