Get ready for a warm and inspiring evening of poetry, music, and connection at Anythink Wright Farms! The library is thrilled to host the third Unstudied Adams County event, created and hosted by Adams County Poet Laureate Kerrie Joy. Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 7th from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
This free, all-ages event captures the essence of cozy winter evenings. Enjoy live performances by Kerrie Joy, featured artist Talaya Banks, and local poets during an afternoon of creative expression. The festive atmosphere includes themed activity zones and delicious food from local vendors.
"We've been delighted by the community's response to Unstudied Adams County," says Suzanne McGowan, Director of Customer Experience at Anythink. "These unique events bring people together to celebrate creativity, share stories, and build connections."
Dress for Comfort and Embrace Your Creativity
Participants are encouraged to embrace the cozy theme by wearing their "fanciest" comfy clothes and bringing a blanket for extra comfort. Kerrie Joy shares, "For me, 'cozy' means warm beverages, good company, and stories that resonate. This event promises to be a heartwarming experience that sparks both imagination and reflection."
Featured Artist Talaya Banks Brings a Unique Perspective
Talaya Banks, a Black queer artist from Denver, will share her captivating work. Her artistic approach centers on creating spaces of joy, safety, and leisure for Black femmes. She utilizes play as a tool to challenge societal expectations and cultivate a deeper connection with our bodies.
"Being a part of Unstudied feels like honoring the spirit of learning and self-discovery," says Banks. "My poems explore trust as a dynamic force, like a vibrant garden that keeps growing. Inspired by the music of Al Green, the wisdom of bell hooks on love, and the powerful emotions of Audre Lorde, my work invites reflection on the depths of meaning that exist beyond what we've been taught."
Open Mic Opportunity for Local Poets
Aspiring poets of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in a limited open mic session. Sign-ups begin at 4:00 pm, with slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Performances are limited to five minutes and may be presented in any language.
Uniting the Community Through Poetry
