Hello Macaronians! π
Are you ready for the cold front to move through? βοΈ It’s going to be super cold, so I hope you all stay cozy and warm with your kiddos! Don’t forget to check off those house maintenance tasks that will help get you through the plunging temps!
What were we up to this week?
• Book Club: π I hosted book club and we had a great chat about Wicked. I first read it in my 20s and absolutely loved it. On my second read, though, it didn’t hit quite the same. The story and political undertones are still fascinating, but I think the movie is doing a better job of pulling it all together.
• Saturday Dinner: π We had friends over for an adult dinner, which was wonderful. I made homemade lasagna (Ina Garten’s recipe—highly recommend it!), and they brought a lemon ricotta tart that was de;icious. It’s always such a treat to share a meal with good company.
• Sunday Adventures: π₯ My son had a private taekwondo lesson at Universal Taekwondo to prep for his belt testing—super helpful. Afterward, we picked up our skis from 2nd Time Sports in Northglenn. The last thing on my list is finding boots for my son, and I’m determined to cross that off this weekend.
• D&D Goals: π² Speaking of my son, he’s got a big goal to start an in-person homeschool Dungeons & Dragons group. He’s been playing for over three years, but I’m a total newbie. I’ve been diving into all things D&D to understand it and support him—it’s a bit overwhelming, but also kind of fun!
• Farm Time & 4-H: π Monday, the kids spent time at the farm as usual. They adore the animals, especially their goats. Then on Tuesday, we had our monthly 4-H club meeting. My kids did a presentation about goat agility (yes, it’s a thing!), and it was so fun to see them share their knowledge and excitement with the club.
• Summer Planning: π Can you believe it’s already time to think about summer? This week, we registered for overnight camp at Keystone Science School. My daughter is thrilled to be part of their Counselor Assistant Program (CAP) this year. She’s 14 now and excited about stepping into a leadership role.
• High School Prep: π We also attended the Riverdale Ridge High School Check It Out Night. I can’t believe my daughter is at that stage already. I never thought we’d consider public school for high school (because we homeschooled for so long), but they did a great job giving us an overview! Their theater program is amazing, and the CTE options were really interesting. Now my daughter wants to try welding and small engine repair—who knew?!
What’s coming up next week? π
• Robotics Competition: π€ My son has a robotics competition on Saturday. These events are always a mix of long, uncomfortable hours and bursts of excitement when the team’s robot is in action. I can’t wait to see how they do.
• Indoor Fun Center: ποΈ I’m hoping to sneak in a visit to AllThrills, a new indoor fun center, with the kids on Sunday. But with these frigid temps, I’m guessing it’ll be packed, so we might postpone to next weekend.
• Supper Club: π΄ This weekend, I’m hosting Supper Club at our house, and I’m so excited! The theme is comparison, so I picked a few viral TikTok recipes and matched them with similar recipes from food bloggers. We’ll taste-test and see which ones win our taste buds!
• Reiki Time: π§βοΈ I somehow decided that booking reiki sessions for me and both kids in one week was a good idea, so we'll be spending a lot of time with our reiki practitioner! It’s been a long time coming for me, though, and is much needed—I’m looking forward to it.
Dare I say it looks slightly quiet next week? I’m working hard to create more breathing room in our schedule, and maybe it’s finally paying off a bit.
That’s it for me this week! Have a wonderful week making memories with your kiddos.
Peace, love, and macaroni,
Susan
