If your kids enjoy learning, playing hard, and spending time in the great outdoors, then our Bird Camps are for them!

Bird Conservancy of the Rockies offers year-round camp experiences for kids ages 4-17. All camps are about getting kids outside to have fun and explore nature while making friends, developing leadership skills, and gaining insights into their relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them. Camp content and activities are designed in a progression to introduce young children to the outdoors and build their skills over time.

DAY CAMPS

Day Camps are the perfect introduction to science and nature for younger kids. With a small staff-to-camper ratio, all of our Day Camps strive to balance learning and fun through games, hikes, crafts, scavenger hunts, and structured outdoor play.

Camps are listed below by age group.

Wild Nestlings Mini-Camp
Ages: 4-5
When: July 31-August 4, 2023 ~ 9a.m. to 12 p.m. daily.
Tuition: $103.50/week; scholarships are available.
Location: Environmental Learning Center, 14500 Lark Bunting Lane, Brighton, CO

Our youngest campers will explore the great outdoors through nature walks, crafts, stories, games, and structured outdoor play. Mini-Camps focus on building connections to the outdoors through sensory experiences, and building friendships among campers.

Budding Birders Camp
Ages: 5-7
When: July 24-28, 2023 ~ 9a.m. to 4p.m. daily.
Tuition: $207/week; scholarships are available.
Location: Environmental Learning Center, 14500 Lark Bunting Lane, Brighton, CO

Hone your birding skills in this camp designed to take your birding to the next level! Campers will become experts in binocular and field guide use, and build their observational and scientific skills.

Raptor Camp
Ages: 8-9
When: July 17-21, 2023 ~ 9a.m. to 4p.m. daily.
Tuition: $207/week; scholarships are available.
Location: Environmental Learning Center, 14500 Lark Bunting Lane, Brighton, CO

Raptors: top predator on the grassland! Campers will learn all about the variety of raptors that live in Colorado, as well as their adaptations and the food webs that they dominate.


The Big Week Camp
Ages: 10-11
When: June 12-16, 2023 ~ 9a.m. to 4p.m. daily
Tuition: $247.50/week; scholarships are available.
Location: Environmental Learning Center, 14500 Lark Bunting Lane, Brighton, CO

In The Big Week, campers will hone their observational and scientific skills in order to see as many bird species as possible. In 2022, campers saw 44 different species; can you help us top that in 2023? We will explore different habitats and seek out the birds that call them their home.

Birding Adventure Week Camp
Ages: 11-13
When: June 5-9, 2023 ~ 9a.m. to 4pm. daily
Tuition: $297/week; scholarships are available
Location: Environmental Learning Center, 14500 Lark Bunting Lane, Brighton, CO

Take your birding to the next level by visiting different birding hotspot locations along the front range. Campers will go on 2 field trips away from Barr Lake to find new birds to add to their life lists.



OVERNIGHT CAMPS

Overnight Camps are a welcoming learning environment for youth who have aged out of our Day Camps, as well as pre-teens and teens who are new to Bird Conservancy’s programs. Camps are led by a team of professional environmental educators who have backgrounds in science, education, and youth development.

Taking Flight Overnight Camp | SOLD OUT
Ages: 12-14
Dates: July 9-14, 2023
Tuition: $742.50
Location: Camp takes place at Highlands Camp in Allenspark, CO.

This overnight camp is the next step for budding birders and young nature enthusiasts who want to take their birding skills to the next level and also enjoy outdoor adventure, traditional camp activities, and nature exploration. For 6 days and 5 nights, campers will call a cabin near Rocky Mountain National Park their home. They will have the opportunity to explore the ecosystems of Colorado’s Front Range, while honing their bird identification and leadership skills, gaining independence and responsibility, and making new friends!

On the Wing Overnight Camp
Ages: 15-17
Dates: June 22-30, 2023
Tuition: $1,125
Location: Camp takes place at Highlands Camp in Allenspark, CO.

This camp is for teenagers who aspire to careers in natural resources. Based at a residential camp near Rocky Mountain National Park, campers will have the opportunity to design and conduct mini-research projects in the surrounding forests. Campers will work together to develop a hypothesis, collect scientific data, draw conclusions from their data, write technical scientific research papers, and present their findings to a group of natural resource professionals. In addition, campers will take part in traditional camp activities and learn field journaling, field sketching, field guide and binocular use, bird and plant identification, and field biology.
